Joseph Michael Maningo, born May 29, 1926, died peacefully on October 17, 2020, at home in Brooksville Florida, with his daughter Joyce by his side. Joe’s devoted wife of 70 years, Theresa (Haus) Maningo, pre-deceased her husband by four days. Joe lived on Blydenburgh Road in Centereach, NY from 1935 until 2018. He was a World War II Army veteran serving in Germany, as well as in France, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. Joe Maningo, a retired Middle Country School District employee, is survived by his loving children, Dennis Maningo (Anne Marie) of Tennessee and Joyce Maningo-Forcino (Joseph) of Florida, three grandchildren, Thomas Joseph-Anthony Turney of New Hampshire, Joseph Michael Forcino of Florida, and Nicole Catherine Elliot of New York, as well as two great grandchildren, Jenna Nicole and Joseph Michael of Florida. He is predeceased by his siblings, Martin (Florence) Maningo and Gliceria Peters. Joey is also survived by his sister, Antoinette (Melle) Bishop, his brother-in-law, Jack Peters, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Pre-dating his career with the school district, Joe was also known for driving oil trucks and being the person to call, anytime of the day or night, for any oil burner or plumbing issues. Joe was a dedicated and devoted husband and father, a musician who loved his trumpet, guitar, banjo, ukelele, and piano, and writing songs for friends and family. He was always smiling, laughing, generous, and giving. Joey was there for all who needed him, especially his family. Visiting hours will be Sunday, November 1 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at McManus-Lorey Funeral Home, 2084 Horse Block Road, Medford, NY. A prayer service will be held 6:00 pm on November 1, 2020 at McManus-Lorey Funeral Home, 2084 Horse Block Road, Medford, NY. The funeral will be held 10:00 am on Monday, November 2 at McManus-Lorey Funeral Home, 2084 Horse Block Road, Medford, NY with officiating. Burial with honors will be in Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton on Monday, November 2.
