Daniel Paul Mahalic Obituary

Daniel Mahalic, beloved father, brother, grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, craftsmanship, and warm memories.

Born and raised in Astoria, Queens, Daniel grew up surrounded by the love of his mother Mary, his grandmother Bertha, and his stepfather Herbert. Family was always at the center of his life, and he went on to build his own loving family. With his first wife, Jo Ann, he was the devoted father to Deneen, Daniel Jr., Monica Jo, and Vincent. Later, with his second wife, the late Susan, he was the loving father to Thomas and welcomed another son, Steven, into his heart. Daniel is survived by his sister, also named Susan.

Daniel was a skilled machinist at Brookhaven National Laboratory, where his precision and dedication were unmatched. Beyond his professional life, he was an accomplished carpenter, woodworker, and furniture maker, bringing creativity and meticulous care to every project.

Known for his organized nature, love of puzzles, and passion for films—ranging from classic westerns to contemporary favorites—as well as his deep appreciation for classical music, Daniel had a unique zest for life. He also had his charming quirks, like putting ketchup on everything. Though he preferred the comfort of his home, anyone who crossed his threshold was greeted with warmth, kindness, and a sense of belonging.

Daniel’s legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the craft he honed, and the hearts he touched. He will be remembered as a man of integrity, patience, and quiet joy, whose presence made a lasting impact on all who knew him.

He is survived by his children, Deneen, Daniel Jr., Monica Jo, Vincent, Thomas, and Steven; his sister Susan; and the extended family and friends who loved him dearly.

Daniel’s home, filled with music, laughter, and the aroma of his handiwork, was a reflection of his heart—welcoming, warm, and full of life, a place where family and friends always felt at home.
