Katie Ernestine Smith was born on December 13, 1939 in Nashville, TN. She was the youngest child of Edward and Nannie Medlin. She graduated in 1957 from Clara Barton High School in Brooklyn, NY.
Katie was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Nannie Medlin, her sister and best friend, Sadie Starks and her brothers Robert and Preston Medlin and her grandson, Alvin Horton, Jr. She is survived by her daughters Michelle Wright and Linda Smith, her son Victor Smith; grandchildren, Terria Benson, Brandon Smith, LeRon Smith, Chris Horton and Val Horton. She also had 4 great-grand children, LeRon, Jr., Rondell, Cameron and Christique. Also surviving her is her brother Edward Medlin III and other family members.
Katie became sick at a very young age. She suffered a lot, but anyone who knew her can attest to the fact that she seldom complained. She enjoyed life and was very kind to others and lived an exemplary christian life.
Katie was a devoted Jehovah Witness. She enjoyed worshipping Jehovah and sharing her knowledge of him with others. She was a wonderful mother and even though she was sick, she made sure that her children didn't lack any of life's necessities.
Katie's ever present smile will be missed by all that she came in contact with. Her ability to remain strong, even under the most adverse conditions should inspire us all. She will be missed by all of her family and friends.
