Obituary of William G. Gartung
Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William George Gartung, age 85, of Medford NY passed away on April 14th, 2020 in his home with his loving wife by his side.
William (Bill) was born in Astoria to William and Mary Gartung on December 4th, 1934. He went to high school at Seton Hall in Patchogue and graduated in 1953. He began fixing radios with his father at age 16, and at age 21 he took over the business of Gartung Radio and Television for the next thirty-five years. His customers had a deep appreciation and fondness for ‘Bill’. He was great at fixing nearly anything. Bill enjoyed tinkering with old tractors and anything built by Ford.
William and his wife, Elizabeth (Rose) Gartung met during high school, while playing on a baseball field in Medford. He is survived by his wife of 64 years and by seven children - Deborah (Henry) Sanna, Rebecca (Bob) Gonzalez, Christopher (Donna) Gartung, Mark (Amy) Gartung, Glenn (Jenifer) Gartung, Jaqueline (Paul) Arden, and Rachel (Joseph) Mitchell. In addition, there are 17 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. William was the oldest of 12 Brothers and Sisters. All feel blessed to have had such a wonderful presence in their lives.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to the religious broadcasting services EWTN and Catholic Faith Network.
Due to current circumstances, viewing and burial will be private. A memorial will held at a later date. The family is grateful to everyone for their expressions of sympathy and love at this time. To honor Bill's memory, please feel free to visit and sign his tribute wall.
