Obituary of Lucille Adele Fries
Please share a memory of Lucille to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lucille Adele Fries passed away on February 13th 2023 at age 84, just one day shy of her 64th wedding anniversary. She was preceded in death by her mother Florinda and her big brother Al. She is survived by her loving husband, Donald Fries, who referred to her as the love of his life and the wind beneath his wings; her children Donna Marie King (Bill), Daniel Fries (Melinda) and Darren Fries (Sharon); in addition her sisters Mary Ruggiero and Florence Scadin and her two brothers David (Tina) and Fred (Trish) Scadin. She was a fun loving Grandma to Russell, Keith(Jennifer), Billy (Tamara) and Brian King; Logan, Casey (Catherine), and Maxwell Fries and a great grandmother of Charlotte and Elliott King. She also has an extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews too numerous to list, whom she dearly loved.
Lucille, born and raised In Oyster Bay, lived in Medford for nearly 61 years. A tremendous athlete, Lucile held high school records at a time when women’s sports were not commonplace. Later she was a member of a softball team that won the NY State Championships and played for the US title in Tennessee where she was the matriarch of the team comprised of much younger women. She taught most kids in the neighborhood how to throw a fastball, a curve, and out ran all the young boys in the 100 yard dash. She was known as the unofficial mother and nurse to all the kids in the neighborhood by caring for and encouraging them. Handywoman, gardener, and snow shoveler extraordinaire, Lucille opened her home filled with love, support, lots of laughter, and an extra plate to anyone in need. She had more friends than one could count and never missed a birthday, or anniversary with a celebratory note to family and friends which usually contained a scratch off. As a strong and supportive “Mom” she never minced words, and you always knew where you stood with Lucille. In their senior years she and Donald enjoyed extensive travel around the world with a group of dear friends, and a dance card by her side. She is already dearly missed.
