Joan was my cousin by marriage. She was part of the family for as long as I remember, as evidenced by the attached photograph taken in our house in Whitestone in the late 1950s.
Joan Burns was one of the warmest, kindest, most self effacing people I have known. Time spent in her presence was always special because that is how Joan made you feel.
Rest in in peace, cousin Joan. You were loved, and will remembered and missed.

Youloved your friends and playing cards but cherished Family above all. I'm sure your in heaven in Uncle Bob's loving arms again with a beautiful hat on telling him about all the stories you have to tell since you saw him last. You lived your life with such Grace and I will truly miss you but am so lucky to have such wonderful memories of you❤

Although Joan was 8 years older than I we grew up living close to each other. Sunday's were family day and often we would walk to her grandmother Kate Connell Kassabaum's and Rennie (her grandfather) and visit on Sunday afternoon. Joan, her parents Margaret and Raymond and, her brother Raymond, lived upstairs and so Sunday afternoon was family time. They all lived across the street from St. Sylvester's church in city Line - the church where I was baptized. I was closer to Raymond as he and I were closer in age.
Interesting coincidence that Joan's funeral mass will be from St. Sylvester's Church in Medford.
As adults, Joan and I developed a wonderful friendship that began when I came home from the convent in 1967 and Joan and Bob invited us to share Thanksgiving with them and their children (then all small and now all grown).
I will miss our every other month phone chats. Seems that I am now the last of a generation. Joan was a great role model for me for aging. I am blessed to have had her in my life.
