Catherine M. Bromberg Obituary

Catherine M. Bromberg was a caring mother, loving grandmother, and wonderful wife. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Marshall, her 3 daughters, Bonnie, Leslie, and Stacie, 4 grandchildren, Julia, Benjamin, Erik, and Kurt, and 2 sons-in-law, Willy and Keith. Catherine is also survived by her pets, which she has always loved dearly. Catherine was born in Dundee, Scotland on a farm with her parents Alexander, Mary Helen, and her older brother, Sandy. She grew up on different farms, surrounding by animals, and developed a love of nature during her childhood. When she turned 21, she made a brave decision to come to the United States to work as a nanny for a family in Long Island. It was during this time, Catherine met Marshall, who worked as a landscaper for the same family. A courtship soon began and they were married a year later. Shortly after, the couple moved to Medford, bought a house, raised 3 children, and

had many pets.

Catherine always extended a deep kindness to animals, and nursed many injured animals in her home including rabbits, robins, and pigeons. One of Catherine’s favorite things to do was feeding the chickadees, cardinals, blue jays, and woodpeckers which would gather around the many birdfeeders in her yard. She also adored the squirrels, happily feeding them pounds and pounds of peanuts throughout the years.

Catherine always loved Sunday family outings with Marshall and her children to parks and wildlife preserves throughout Long Island. The Holtsville Ecology Site, Quogue Wildlife Refuge, and Westbury Gardens were some of her favorite places to visit, and comfort her family with many wonderful memories they will always cherish. Catherine was a loving grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Over the years, she helped care for her grandchildren, whether babysitting, buying them their favorite toys, or treating them to ice cream or sweets. Julia, Ben, Erik, and Kurt will greatly miss her love and kindness, but will be inspired to be animal-lovers and respect nature as they grow up.In addition to being a caring mother and grandmother, Catherine worked as a part-time cashier at Stop and Shop for over 30 years. She had many customers who would come to her register to chat with her and enjoy her kind nature. She also enjoyed the company of her co-workers and friends at the store.

Catherine passed away on January 30, 2024, at the age of 77. She will be remembered at a service on Saturday, February 3 from 2:00-4:00pm at McManus-Lorey Funeral Home, 2084 Horseblock Rd, Medford, NY 11763.
