When I was in college at Stony Brook, as a foreign student, living on campus, with no family here in the USA I had, had surgery that required a daily dressing change. Everyday, first thing in the morning, I would go into the infirmary and Joanna would change the dressing, everyday she was kind and always with a smile. This routine went on for months. So I saw Joanna everyday for at least 4 months.
About 12 years ago I got the opportunity to recruit at Stony Brook and I made time to go see Joanna and to thank her. It was like no time had passed she was the same happy, kind person. I am so very glad I got the opportunity to do this.
I was trying to look Joanna up again because we are taking my now 17 year old daughter on a college tour of Stony Brook this weekend and I discovered Joanna has passed. I would have enjoyed seeing her again, and introducing my family to this very kind and wonderful woman.
I was lucky to have had her in my life. I am grateful.
