Obituary of Helen Benitez

Helen Alvarez Benitez passed away October 21, 2014 at the age of 84. She was born in Manhattan, New York where she met and married her beloved husband Louis Benitez. Helen was happily married to Louie for 63 years. She was a longtime resident of Farmingville, NY where she raised six children. Helen was warm and loving with a beautiful smile that will live on in the hearts of family and friends. She was an avid reader and a devoted founding member of The Roman Catholic Church of the Resurrection. Helen is survived by her husband, Louis Benitez of Farmingville, NY; children Denise Fawcett of Austin, TX; Doreen Santa Maria of Centereach, NY; Louis Benitez of Missoula, MT; John Benitez of North Wales, PA; Dina Benitez of Farmingville, NY; and Ralph Benitez of Tampa, FL; grandchildren Josh and Christine Fawcett of Austin, TX; Thomas and Nikita Santa Maria of Centereach, NY; Christopher Benitez of North Wales, PA; Christian and Corey Benitez of Farmingville, NY; and Zachary and Cole Benitez of Missoula, Montana.; great-children Jayla and Christian Fawcett of Houston, TX; and Julia Acosta of Houston, TX. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and special friends. Helen is preceded in death by her parents Ramona Rivera and José Rafael Alvarez, and her cherished sister Alice Oguri. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014, from 7-9 pm at McManus-Lorey Funeral Home in Medford, NY. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, October 25, at 12pm at The Roman Catholic Church of the Resurrection. A private cremation will follow. Her final resting place will be at Calverton National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Helen to The Roman Catholic Church of the Resurrection would be appreciated.
