Ethelinda J. Ellis, 97, a long-time resident of Medford, New York, died on November 17, 2015. Ellis was a charter member of the Medford Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the co-founder of the Long Island Grenadiers Drum and Bugle Corps with her husband Bert.
Ellis, known to many in the area as simply “Aunt Ethel”, was born in Patchogue, New York, on June 24, 1918, and moved to Medford when she was a child.
Ellis was known throughout the community for her commitment to public service, helping her husband Bert run the Long Island Grenadiers for 34 years and playing an active role in the Medford Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for decades. She also belonged to the Loyal Order of the Moose.
Ellis was pre-deceased by her beloved husband, Albert H. Ellis.

Her grandson David (married to Gretchen) Stumme of Rochester, NY
Her granddaughter Susan Stumme of Arlington, VA
Her grandson Jeff Ellis (married to Heather) of Speonk, NY, and great-grandchildren Jordan and Tyler
Her grandson Scott Ellis (married to Kimberly) of Spencerport, NY, and great-granddaughter Savanna
Her grandson Steven Ellis (married to Elizabeth) of Bohemia, NY, and great-granddaughter Livia
In lieu of flowers, Ethelinda's family requests that donations be made to the Medford Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary or the Medford American Legion Post 1848.
Arrangements are entrusted to McManus-Lorey Funeral Home, 2084 Horse Block Road, Medford, NY. Visitation will be at the Medford Fire Department on Monday, November 23, 2015 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 7:00 - 9:00 PM.
Funeral will be at the Medford Fire Department at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 24, 2015. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Patchogue.
