Obituary of James Beck

James Beck, age 82, a long term resident of Medford, NY, passed on March 21, 2016 from congestive heart failure and complications from a stroke suffered in mid-November. He was the devoted husband of the late Ellen R., loving father of Diane and her husband Pio, Lori and her husband Gary and Patty and her late husband William. Dear brother of George and Uncle to his four children, the late Susan, and Stephen from his first wife Marilyn, and George Jr and Richard from his current wife, Doris. Also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Tara, Melissa, Jennifer, Jim, Matt, Jesse, Brett and Dante and great grandchildren Iris, Nick, Tino and Grace. James worked for many years at the SMITHTOWN-NEWS as a pressman, followed by a career and retirement from the print shop at SUNY Stony Brook. Hobbies over the years included baseball while a teenager, playing the accordion, fishing, building a shortwave radio and television set, bowling, rooting for the Mets, Jets, Knicks and Rangers and especially hanging out with Oscar, a Shih Tzu he got for his seventieth birthday with whom he quickly became inseparable. Arrangements have been entrusted to the McManus-Lorey Funeral Home, 2084 Horseblock Road, Medford NY. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, March 28, 2016 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. On Monday evening, a prayer service will be at 8:00 pm at the funeral home. The funeral service will be at 10 am at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 29, 2016. Interment with honors will follow at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY.
