Obituary of Joel M. Sands

Joel M. Sands, formerly of Bellport, NY and W. Palm Beach, FL. April 4, 1928 to November 17, 2016. Joel was born in the Bronx, NY on April 4, 1928 to Louis and Mollie Sandrowitz. Joel was an accomplished musician having studied trumpet from an early age. He taught band in the Patchogue-Medford Public Schools for 32 years 1954 to 1986. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in April, 1946 where he played trumpet in the band. Joel is survived by his wife Jean of 66 years, sons Mark, wife Kathryn and Steven, wife Magdeline. Granddaughters Rebecca Bliss, husband Matthew and Debra Bigelow, husband Mark and a grandson Connor Bigelow. The service will be held on Sunday November 20, 2016 at 11:30 am at the McManus-Lorey Funeral Home 2084 Horse Block Rd. Medford, NY 11763 with the interment service immediately following at the Patchogue Hebrew Cemetery in North Patchogue, NY. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Temple Beth El in Patchogue and the Century Village Symphony Orchestra in West Palm Beach, Florida.
