Obituary of Sue Ann Horn
Please share a memory of Sue to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sue Ann (Eagle) Horn, 69, of Farmingville, NY passed away peacefully in the early hours of October 15, 2017. During her final days, Sue was surrounded by love from close friends and family. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and confidant, Sue, known for her warm and feisty nature, always cared for others before herself and was loved by all those she touched.
Born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Alfred Thomas and Florence Helen (Honeycomb) Eagle, Sue spent her early years growing up in Cranford, NJ. She obtained her RN at the Ann May School of Nursing in 1969 and it was during this time that she met her husband, David Keith Horn, whom she married on June 21, 1970. Over the next few years, Sue formed lifelong friendships and created many memories working as a nurse and living in Biloxi, MS and Rome, NY while Dave was in the US Air Force. Following the birth of their first daughter, Sue and Dave finally settled down in Farmingville, NY, where they built a home and raised their daughters, Kristin and Kimberly. Although she took a break from nursing while raising her daughters, Sue always remained engaged and active, never missing a sporting or school event. When not managing the house or shuttling her daughters to various activities and play dates, she kept busy with crafts and gardening; was a part of a Monday night bowling league; and was an active member of the Sachem school community, enjoying her many years serving in the Parent Teacher Association. As her girls got older, Sue returned to work, first as a substitute school nurse in the Sachem school district, and then as an RN for Dr. Kenneth Fishberger, with whom she worked for over two decades.
In more recent years, Sue, now retired, looked forward to annual visits to her beloved St. Maarten, doing Sudoku puzzles, and engaging in daily chats and frequent lunch dates with friends. She was best known for her famous potato salad, a hit at all BBQs, and her creative towel and diaper “cakes”. Family and friends meant the world to Sue and she always tried to make certain that her husband and daughters were surrounded by people who loved them like family and enabled them to experience the values of true friendship. Most of all, Sue cherished the time she spent with her two grandsons, Matthew and Benjamin, her greatest pleasures in life.
Sue is survived by her husband of 47 years, David Horn; her daughters, Kristin Horn (Christopher Lauffenburger) of Littleton, MA and Kimberly Horn (Mo Niazi-Sai) of Ramsey, NJ; her two grandsons, Matthew and Benjamin Niazi-Sai of Ramsey, NJ; and her step-sister, Diane Regan of Fairfax, VA. She also leaves behind a countless number of loving friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Eagle of Pasadena, Texas.
Sue’s family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her most recent illness and who kept her company, held her hand, and provided counsel during her last few days. Although she will be missed terribly, we believe she has finally found some peace.
