My aunt Virginia was the second of five daughters born to
my grandparents on my father’s side. She left Puerto Rico in the middle 1940’s together with her sister Minerva. They had big dreams, including to be discovered , and become actresses. Real life turned merciless, and they faced great challenges. Minerva returned to the island, but Virginia decided to stay, and pushed back. She faced great difficulties as a young divorced woman with a baby boy to raise by herself.
She became a very strong woman, surviving, making a life for herself and my cousin Nick. She raised a good man, a family man that reciprocated her love, and never abandoned her. She once told me she felt blessed to see him married Anna, a strong lady as herself. She was also blessed by enjoying seen her granddaughters, Virginia and Victoria growing up near her.
It was not a secret, as she would freely tell you, that she was her daddy’s girl. She tried, and succeeded in becoming as strong as her parents Fermin, and Vicenta. Well, aunt Virginia, you are now reunited with them, and your brothers, sisters and all the family members that left before you.
This now the time to celebrate your life. I will always remember you with love and admiration.
Your nephew, Alejo Borrero Jr.

My aunt Virginia always was strong in front of the adversities that life poured on her. A very strong women. Loyal to the end with family and close friends. The historian of the family. I enjoyed her history of when she was growing up with my grandfather in Puerto Rico. Her history of growing up with her sister Minerva (her partner in crime) and of her brother, my father the closest to her.
God rewarded her with a son Nick, that was her reason to I’ve and that did not failed in reciprocating her love. She was also blessed with the daughter she never had in her daughter in law Anna, I’m a witness to that because she had told me so. She wanted to be sure her son married a strong women as herself.
My memory may fail me, but the longest she was away from them was the month he stayed with me and my wife Blanca when we moved to Alabama, in the 1991.
I had my aunt all for myself that month hugging me and also pulling my ears when I did not agree with her. That’s how I remember her and will live in my memory.
With loved your nephew,
Alejo Borrero Jr.
