Obituary of Thomas Michael Ryan, Jr.

Please share a memory of Thomas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Thomas Michael Ryan Jr. of Farmingville, NY, beloved husband and father of two children, passed away on the morning of Saturday, March 13th, 2021 at the age of 60.

Thomas was born on May 24th, 1960 to Thomas Michael and Ann Maureen (Gallagher) Ryan. He grew up in both New York and California with his cherished siblings and his father`s second wife Patricia Marion (Johnson) Ryan. He developed a strong passion for competitive swimming before enrolling in the Air Force Academy. After leaving the Air Force Academy, he moved back to NY. He married his wife Heather Hudelson on September 13th, 1986 and together raised two daughters, Meagan Anne and Karyn Margaret, who were his whole world.

Thomas, often called Tom and Tommy by friends and family, was a passionate family man and self-proclaimed handyman, though not without the occasional mishap and injury. He loved the holidays and was always excited to get in the festive spirit by decorating the home and yard. He enjoyed the sport of soccer and when not watching could also be found refereeing games. Thomas spent many years volunteering as a lector and baptism program coordinator at The Church of the Resurrection in Farmingville and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Thomas loved family vacations to destinations such as Myrtle Beach and Walt Disney World, and was thrilled when he had the opportunity to travel to Ireland and Scotland with his cousin Michael Brennan to meet so many extended family members. He was known for his quick wit, booming laugh, and care for others. He also loved reading, swimming, music, and watching movies. Above all, he loved his family and the time he was able to spend with them, be it driving across state lines to take his children to a concert or watching a movie with Meagan or a show with his "Buddy" Karyn.

Thomas was preceded in death by his father Thomas, mother Ann, and sister Maureen. He is survived by his wife Heather, his daughters Meagan and Karyn, siblings Eileen Blair (Peter), Ann Hershon (Eric), Robert, Patricia Wernet (Scott), stepmother Patricia, and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and in-laws.
