Born October 6, 1932 in London, England, the firstborn child of Dennis and Kate Donovan and sister to Bernard Donovan. She lived through WWII with vivid memories of running to the bomb shelter at night and watching the dogfights in the sky, spending 2 years during the war with family in Ireland to escape the bombing. She met and married U.S.A.F. Airman First Class (later Suffolk County Probation Supervisor) James “Jim” Gossin and left her family in England for a new life in America, eventually settling on Long Island New York. Together they had two children, Denise and Mark whom she loved dearly.
A lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Phyllis loved her Irish heritage, Irish culture as well as the many friendships she developed in the Hibernians.
She was the beloved Wife to James, loving Mother to Denise and Mark, caring Granny to Helena, grateful Mother-in-Law to Stefanie and special Sister to Bernard and his wife Betty with a special love also for his children Kieron, Joanne, John and Kathryn.
