Please share a memory of Catherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Catherine Philomena “Phyllis” Gossin (nee Donovan) passed away peacefully At Good Shepherd Hospice in Port Jefferson N.Y. on February 18, 2022.

Born October 6, 1932 in London, England, the firstborn child of Dennis and Kate Donovan and sister to Bernard Donovan.  She lived through WWII with vivid memories of running to the bomb shelter at night and watching the dogfights in the sky, spending 2 years during the war with family in Ireland to escape the bombing.  In her childhood, a chance meeting on the street also provided her a momentary private audience with the then King and Queen of England.

She met and married U.S.A.F. Airman First Class (later Suffolk County Probation Supervisor) James “Jim” Gossin and left her family in England for a new life in America, eventually settling on Long Island New York.  Together they had two children, Denise and Mark whom she loved dearly.

A lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Phyllis loved her Irish heritage, Irish culture as well as the many friendships she developed in the Hibernians.

She was the beloved Wife to James, loving Mother to Denise and Mark, caring Granny to Helena, grateful Mother-in-Law to Stefanie and special Sister to Bernard and his wife Betty with a special love also for his children Kieron, Joanne, John and Kathryn.

And, she will be missed.

Additionally, The family would like to thank and remember the many loving family and friends, past and present in Phyllis’ life, especially Dorothy and George Dunn, Ralph and Susan Ranghelli, Lorraine and Ray Wysolmierski, Mary O’Donnell, Larry Pollen, Barbara Scott, Carla Fuentes, Nona Khatiashvili, Harry and Margaret Gossin, Bob and Pat Gossin, Dan and Nora Gossin, Don and Helen Gossin, John and Janice Gossin, Sister Mary Lou Gossin, Janet Gossin, Louise and Joe Bara and the many, many loving nieces and nephews she knew through her marriage to Jim.
